Eleven illustrations of Adam and Eve were gilded and only their navels are left uncovered.What is left to be seen is indeed impossible, Adam and Eve not having a mother could not have the trace of the umbilical cord. The characters of the myth are here censured while their belly buttons are highlighted as “illumination.” Those impossible scars represent, to the artist, the essence of the mystery of our origin.

Onze illustrations d’Adam et Eve sont entièrement recouvertes de feuilles d’or, à l’exception du nombril. Le couple originel n’ayant pas de mère, aucune trace d’un cordon ombilical ne devrait être observable. Les personnages mythiques sont ici caviardés et relégués au rang de légendes. L’accent est mis sur le nombril comme s’il s’agissait d’une illumination. Cette cicatrice chimérique représente, pour l’artiste, la source du mystère de l’origine.
