Suite of 12 vintage postcards golden with brass leaves, 28 x 38 cm (each)

The work consists of 12 vintage postcards, the entire surface of which has been covered with gold leaf, except for the word “here”, which had been written on each card by anonymous senders.The adverb “here” is meaningful in the work of Samyn. He is interested in double meanings, and frequently uses the French word,“ici”, which is a palindrome, also referring to the terrestrial world (in French, “ici-bas”). “Here” is fundamentally the place of presence. “Here” is the place where I am now, at this very instant; “Here”, the place where I am reading what is before my eyes, living the moment, feeling alive in space, at a precise location and being aware of my body.

L’intervention consiste en une application de feuilles d’or sur toute la surface de la partie écrite de la carte postale tout en réservant minutieusement le seul mot “here” (ici, en français). Cet adverbe de lieu est significatif dans le travail de Fabrice Samyn. “Here”, c’est fondamentalement le lieu de la présence. “Here” signifie le lieu où je suis maintenant, à cet instant précis ; “ici, l’endroit où je lis ce qui est sous mes yeux”. Vivre le moment à l’endroit où l’on est, se sentir vivre dans l’espace, à un endroit précis en prenant conscience de son corps.
